Some Thoughts on the Entrepreneurial Enterprise (10 h 10 à 11 h 40)

1) Your personal management style as Art Craft Science (with hand-out for exercise for participants)
2) Crafting Strategy -> as a small company, strategy naturally emerges...as we grow, we "think" we need to start strategic planning like a big companies, and we "think" that in a large company strategy == a plan. But this can lead to failure as we grow.
3) Heroic Leadership -> as CEO of a rapidly expanding small company, our ego can easily overcome us and turn us into a "Heroic leaders".
4) Organizations as communities -> in a small organization, we know everyone’s name and everyone is a human being to us. As the organization grows, we have an inclination to begin to see people as human resources. This leads to many of the problems we see in HR and L&D etc... But there are ways to avoid this.
5) Using HR as your strategy for growth and innovation
6) Succession Management -> Russian roulette in the small company
7) Quebec’s St Lawrence Valley: technology with art

 

Biographie :

Henry Mintzberg is Cleghorn Professor of Management Studies in the Desautels Faculty of Management at McGill University in Montreal. His research has dealt with issues of general management and organizations, focusing on the nature of managerial work, forms of organizing, and the strategy formation process. He has also been promoting the development of a family of programs for practicing managers in the private and health sectors. His own teaching activities focus on ad hoc seminars for managers and work with doctoral students. He is currently working on an electronic pamphlet entitled “Rebalancing Society: radical renewal beyond left, right, and center.” Voir la biographie complète en anglais »

Half an hour reflection* session conducted by Phil Le Nir from coaching ourselves, based on a methodology developed by one of the most consistently interesting sources of management thinking and education : Henry Mintzberg, the John Cleghorn Professor of Management Studies in the Desautels Faculty of Management at McGill.

Biographie :

Phil Le Nir is Executive Director CoachingOurselves. He developed CoachingOurselves, a new approach to management development pioneered in the International Masters Program in Practicing Management. Using content derived from the IMPM he experimented with delivery formats and began facilitating management learning sessions with his managers, and later with peer groups. Phil is working to bring CoachingOurselves to organizations worldwide.
